Cross Channel Mile Builders
Keen to gain some offshore experience and boost your mileage? Whether you are an enthusiastic beginner or experienced sailor looking to gain more experience our cross channel weekends are a fantastic way to add nearly 300 miles to your logbook under the watchful eye of one of our RYA Yachtmaster Instructors on board one of our yachts.
The English Channel is infamously regarded as one of the busiest shipping lanes in the world, crossing it is no mean feat and during the passage you will experience collision regulations in real life!
The weekend begins after work on Thursday when you’ll join your yacht and begin the passage North. En route you’ll experience the legendary Alderney Race, learning how to harness the phenomenal tidal flow. You’ll then head into the nautical equivalent of the M25 Motorway and with expert tuition you’ll learn how to assess collision risks and what action to take.
Approximately 18 hours after leaving Jersey you’ll sight the famous Needles Lighthouse and shortly after will arrive in the lovely port of Lymington. That evening there will be time for a meal and few drinks ashore followed by a visit to Lymington’s famous jazz bar - Longs! On Saturday, after preparing for the return voyage you’ll leave for the homeward leg, crossing the shipping lanes in darkness and arriving in Jersey bu Lunchtime on Sunday.
The weekend is also ideal for Coastal Sipper and Yachtmaster candidates who are required to have logged several skippered passages before their formal assessment.
Price per head is £245 and includes:
- Yacht and instructor
- Fuel and berthing fees
- Wet weather sailing suit
