Phill Robinson
Phill is one of only four RYA Yachtmaster Instructors in Jersey and comes with a wealth of local knowledge. Phill crewed on board Quadstone, one of twelve identical steel Global Challenge yachts on the leg between Buenos Aires and Wellington in 2000, so look forward to great stories from Cape Horn!
Sailing experience: Started sailing as a teenager in dinghies on inland lakes. Then on and of sailed cruising yachts and got involved in club racing. Since 1990 I have worked through the RYA training courses and sailed in different areas such as the Arctic Circle of the coast of Norway, the coast around Southern Ireland, the Channel area including the south coast of England, Channel Islands and French ports. In 2000 sailed a leg of the BT Challenge from Buenos Aires to Wellington. Skippered yacht charter work, yacht deliveries and instructing have been my focus in recent years.
Been boating since: On and off since 1968.
RYA qualifications: RYA Yacht Master Instructor with commercial endorsement.
Best days sailing: Lots! On a sunny summers day with fresh F5 SW winds, single handed from St. Malo returning to Jersey.
Favourite place to sail: Got to be around these waters.
Best boating tip: So many over the years but "One hand for you and one for the boat" If it moves find something that doesn’t, safety first.
Luxury item on a long trip?: Music at different times can lift your spirits.
